Somehow, i feel discontented and unfulfilled. I think the series is not getting better but rather stale and insipid as it progresses. I didn't like this one as much as the first/second book in the series. I think the author tried to add some elements of surprise and revealed them towards the end but by that time, I fully lost interest and curiosity to unravel any mystery. There are some loose ends and silly, illogical liberties he took with the narrative. Like how did the skeleton-soldiers appear out of nowhere in the Half Blood Camp in the end? What the hell happened to Bianca/Nico and why/who put them in the casino of Lotus seventy years ago?  I feel that the Trials of Apollo series is much better written than this one - though I only read the first two books in that series and heaped a happy 5 pointer ratings on both of them!

The author seems to be simply pushing the series forward, biding his time while Percy Jackson grows up to be 16 years old. He just made up transparent looking skeleton-soldiers grown from dinosaur teeth and had them chase after Percy and his group of friends. Throw into the mixture, some weird looking lion-man manticore, cow-serpent, hundred headed dragon and it feels like Mr.Riordon is grasping at the straws for ideas. In the first book, Percy's mother gets abducted and he goes on a mission, along with his friends, to release her and also bring the Lightning bolt to Zeus. In the second book, his friend Grover falls into a trap and he goes with his friends to rescue him. In the process, he purges the evil poison that is consuming Thalia tree near Half Blood Camp. In this book, his friend Annabeth is kidnapped and is trapped along with another Olympian goddess, Artemis. Percy Jackson has to save the two and also let the Olympian Gods' council know of a plot of Luke, Kronos and other Titans to usurp them.

Danger is brewing. Kronos, the lord of Titans, during the war with Olympians, got smashed into pieces and was distributed in the bowels of Tartarus. But now he is awakened, gathering forces and regaining his strength. With the help of his minions and half bloods like Luke, he is reforming himself. There is a oracle prophecy which states that one of the children of the major three Gods of Olympus, when they reach an age of sixteen, will make a choice that either keeps/makes/destroys the ruling Gods. So, naturally, there is fear and wariness among the Olympians regarding Thalia( daughter of Zeus, nearing sixteen soon ) and Percy (son of Poseidon, about 14 years old). And there is also an urge from the Titans to recruit them for their cause. I am eager and hopeful that the next book in the series will reveal some more of this conundrum. Thalia checks herself out of this quagmire .. by becoming a forever, fifteen year old immortal! So all rests upon Percy and the path he treads in future. I wish and hope that the next book doesn't disappoint me as much!!

Cheers 🍻 🥂
