Just amazed. I found this so immersive and gripping that I finished about 75 percent of the story in a day. Easily one of the best books to come out this year. Easily one of the best reads for me of all time. It is an alchemy of all the elements I like - dark magic, murder mystery, time loops .. all the twists in the story just had me going wow. It is a fast paced adventure story where the main character has to search and find an Alchemical heart - the most magically powered object in the world. She will die if she doesn't find it by 11.59 pm on Halloween. She has to solve a series of riddles her father has sent down from the past. She teams up with strange guys whom she doesnt know if she can fully trust or not. Each of them claims to be innocent and implicates the other. Even her professor whom she adored and trusted deeply shows inclination for procuring the Alchemical heart, rendering her suspect of trust. This hunt for the object keeps repeating in an endless loop of 48 hours until she finds it. Cool.  All the suspense and uncertainty had my stomach in knots and had my heart beating fast. And there is also a devil involved .. who makes deals with successful artists and then kills them mysteriously when they failed to hold their end of the bargain. What's not to like, eh? 


Loved ❤ it. This book in one of the contestants in the Goodreads choice awards for Fantasy. The whole premise is amazing, the characters are filmsy.. we don't know whom to trust and whom not to. Holland, the main character, is naive and generally very trustworthy which endeared her to me. I read 'Once upon a broken heart' by the author and felt this book in its flawless and superb plot is a definite improvement. The magic and the forgetfulness induced had my head roll. :) Do check it out. !! Cheers.

 The Wings of the Dove  By Henry James Rating : 3/5 Genres: classics, drama, fiction, 2021-read. The plot is good --  but the writing is not. I picked this book wearily knowing the author - having read his other classic The Turn of the Screw. Something in his style of writing calls for skipping chunks of text and not miss much in the line of story/plot. It's not an easy read this big book - if he hasn't delved so much into the characters' inner conflicts, psychological reactions, thoughts, feelings to the extent he has - I believe this book would have been much shorter and manageable.
