I should say a very easy, breezy 5 pointer this one gets! I bow down before the creative genius of Stephen King. I salute his knack for writing and keeping the reader hooked no matter what subject he is talking about. Because he is very versatile and very prolific in his writing. Each of these short stories carries its own weight. Each one leaves its mark in a different but sure way. There are short stories and there are longer ones .. but all contain some amount of darkness, death, mystery in them. I especially enjoyed the ones which had supernatural elements added and those with cops and detectives. The old aged male characters, I felt, spoke the language of Mr.King - exactly the way he speaks. Their thoughts and behaviors reflected his own and it felt like knowing him on a personal level. I think the areas where King shines the most are writing emotionally deep and complex characters. He has powerful insights into the hurts and loses people experience - maybe from his own life lessons? I don't know. He made me want to empathize and tear up on more than one occasion in this book. He doesn't write about these characters - he transforms himself into them. He becomes his protagonists and antagonists. A pure God given gift to the reading community - Mr.King!!
There is a story in which ghost kids haunt an old man, forcing him to take care of them. There is another where a man dreams of the location of a hidden dead body and he becomes the prime/only suspect. In another case, a man has a mysterious person answer his conundrums/problematic questions and guide him into an established future. A man assists a mad scientist in his experiments only to destroy all of it later. Each of these is very beautifully imagined. Even beautifully written. Do check these out!!
