What bloody hell! What did I just read? Secret Societies? Ritualistic, fibonacci series based killings? Very well written. Best book in the series as far as I have made it through! Blends all the elements that ticked me off from first book and adds some more spice of its own. This is the book which paves the way for Cassie to become something more than a Natural and embrace the truth of her mother's murder/missing identity. Everything that has happened so far - including the Naturals programme and the associations Cassie made with the other kids in the programme - fades in comparison to the revelation that comes towards the end in this book. It is simply shocking. 

Cassie's mother went missing five years ago from a room drenched in her blood and everyone naturally assume that she must have died. They never found her dead body to prove it though. So Cassie had harbored some hope - even if ill founded - that one day she might hear from her or about her. And at the start of the book, she does. Her "father" conveys her the news of a newly found dead body wrapped in her mother's shawl, wearing her necklace. She ached inside but accepted the possibility of her mother's death after all this time. After that she got sucked into the investigation of murders that were happening at the time. Someone was offing people on dates related through fibonacci series, at fibonacci spiral destined places/casinos and Sloane majorly solved the math aspects of the case while Dean/Cassie tackle the psychological profiling.

Someone had been murdering victims in Vegas Casinos on dates derived from fibonacci series. They had used different methods - drowning, burning, impaling and strangling - on four victims thus far. There were four victims and Sloane with the others figured out the location, date and method of next murder. There were some usual suspects but still the murder took place. The FBI couldn't get the casino owner - who is also Sloane's father - from closing down the ballroom where sve thinks the next murder is gonna take place. Whom was the killer trying to impress? The Naturals also figured out that these killings resemble a repeating pattern of nine killings every once in three years since early 1800s. I felt that this current case was really secondary to what really was coming at the end for Cassie. The Nightshade killer and his involvement in ridding them of the murderer/victim. This felt more central to what was to follow in the next book in the series. Really enjoyed it. I am super excited to pick up the next book and read more on how Cassie would connect with her mother and how that would play into the whole Naturals programme thing!!
