An ok,ok read. I thought that throwing in elements of revolution and strife into an otherwise peacefully going romantic story created some discord in my mind im relation to the intactness of the plot. This is a story with elements of idealization of love which is unrequited, betrayals and debauchery, unfulfilled desires and aching hearts coming to terms with things as they turned out to be.

So, a young man FrĆ©dĆ©ric meets a married woman on a boat trip and falls instantly in love with her. Where others find her quite plain and of mediocre attractiveness, he attributes all the traits of Venus to her. He establishes a connection to her husband M.Arnoux who is a passionate businesses man but also a swindler and prone to getting into several shady deals unknown to his family. He also has several adulterous relationships among who one is notable - a woman Marechale with whom even Frederic gets involved with and laters fathers a child out of wedlock. So, continuing with the plot in order, all attempts of FrĆ©dĆ©ric to get closer to Madame Arnoux fail even though every one in his circle including her know of his deep intentions because she is a virtuous woman without a fault. The more she keeps him at a hand's length, the more intoxicated and obsessed he becomes with her. She resembles the forbidden fruit to him which he cannot obtain but for the very life of him -  wants. Unable to get her affections,  he turns to other women like Marchale and a wealthy countess Madame Dambreusse both of whom with jealousy and possessiveness towards FrĆ©dĆ©ric bring the ruin of M.Arnoux pushing him into bankruptcy through law suits and thereby also his wife. The couple are forced into retreat to a remote corner of earth and FrĆ©dĆ©ric left to his own devices wiles away time in hedonism and squandering his inheritance.  All the while dreaming about and thinking about his one idealized object - Madame Arnoux. Long time later she returns to pay him one last visit while her husband lies on death bed and even though there was a chance to consummate his long time passion with her, he chooses to refrain and let her go. Her white hair and disheveled appearance sort of throws a shade of disillusionment on his most cherished image and he chooses to retain what once was best and most pure.

Their love and passion for each other remained untainted and unaffected through the hard times and bitter failures - even though they could never consummate it. :)

Book Review : The Perfect Couple by Elin Hilderbrand

The Perfect Couple  By Elin Hildebrand  (Nantucket #3) Published Year : 2018 Page Count: 347 pages  Medium Used: Kindle PW  Genre : Romance, Mystery, Suspense, Psychological Thriller, Drama, Crime, 2024-read.  Rating : 4/5  The ending is such an anticlimax and a let down for me - it almost feels like being cheated. I got so high and invested in the narrative..I lost sleep for most of last night and was reading all day since I got up this morning. The character development is ooof .. the characters are filled with life, credulity and fly off the page into the reader's mind space. I loved the layout of the narrative. I loved the writing.  I would have liked if the mother of the family was a bit on the negative side as well. I mean, really, having Nicole Kidman play the role and making it all cute, nice and kind, compassionate is like wasting enormous talent. I picked this book because I saw an ad that there is a limited series coming up on Netflix ...

Book Review: Gideon The Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

Gideon the Ninth  By Tamsin Muir  Published Year: 2019 Page Count: 448 pages  Medium Used: Kindle PW  Genre : Action, Fantasy, Magic, Necromancers, Adventure, Murder Mystery, Suspense, Lesbian, 2024-read.  Rating : 4.75/5 šŸ™‚šŸ™‚šŸ™‚šŸ™‚šŸŒŸ Wow. The twists!! And wow wow wow .. the lies!! The deceptions ! Its exotic and steamy! Unputdownable. Highly Addictive. Been wanting to read this for a while now! The paperbacks being so expensive, I settled in for a Kindle experience. I am not disappointed. The lack of smut - which I expected/anticipated when I heard its lesbian fantasy - is such a relief. The tone of the narrator is serious throughout. I had some laugh out loud moments once or twice but that's it. One of the best fantasy book series ever!  I think it is the prose and writing style that I had to read this book real slow so as not to miss anything out. There is action in this book , necromancer magic, fantastic games and there are murders to solve and lyc...

Book Review : Tell Me Everything by Elizabeth Strout

Tell Me Everything  (AMGASH #5)  By Elizabeth Strout Published Year: 10 September 2024 Page Count: 300 pages  Medium Used: Kindle PW  Genre : Contemporary Fiction, Drama, Murder Mystery, 2024-read.  Rating : 4/5 The prose is so good and comforting. I couldn't put this book away for long. I picked the book because it is a recent release and the title felt immersive. Few pages into the book, I realized, that most of the characters have long histories and this is a book (5th!!) in a series. But I read it anyway and it could be read as a standalone as well.. only we will not have a complete picture of all the people and their interrelationships.  The three main characters are Olive Kittredge, Lucy Barton and Bob Burgess. There are multiple books each with these as the main characters, drawing up to this one. (I should check them out. I love the author already!) So, in this book, Bob Burgess and Lucy Barton are close friends and Bob nurses a secret crush o...
