Just finished reading this. The last few pages are unputdownable! 🤓🤗 Felt like I was taking a dip in the holy waters of pure love and wisdom which comes from bountiful reflection and maturity. 🤘All the characters portrayed in the story - even the young man who kills for vengeance - are noble hearted - even those driven by a misguided and solipsistic mania. 🙄 They have suffered loss and are harboring resentments. Some are embittered in constant grief. Some have detached and learnt to suppress emotions. Some seek vengeance and become insurgents, part of a resistance and vengeance seekers.
They eventually reconcile with the suffering that has touched not one but both sides cruelly. They find in their hearts and souls the power and ability to forgive and reconstruct what has been destroyed.🥳 I absolutely loved all the characters - but the undoubted hero for me is Mr. Lewis Morgan. 💯 His compassion, good heart and longsightedness wins many people - including me - to his side. 💖
This story threw light on the predicaments and the destruction suffered by Germany - after World War 2 - which had the notorious history for unbelievable human right violations and evil. Hitler is no more but there are still many living who are his supporters and sympathizers. Britishers colonize the post war Germany and start the process of weeding these out. Sending them off to camps and helping others rehabilitate. Through the eyes of one family of Britishers that make the choice to share their house with a German family, we see a land ravaged by war and barely coping with hunger, cold and finding a sense of purpose to continue. The story despite everything ends on a note of hope for a different future and fate for Germany. Even those who have suffered much and suffered to no end could get over it and pull themselves together. Loved it! 💖
