Genres : Classics, Fiction.

Just wrapped up reading. Closed the book shut and placed it safely away on my book rack. Sat back in my rocking chair and contemplated for a while what my review should be. Everyone knows this is a classic and hence timeless, ageless, applies to everyone, everywhere and at everytime. Edgon - the countryside where this story takes place is a beautiful village. I loved the landscape and the time during which this is written. I wouldn't mind giving up my modern day amenities and life style to move here! Truly!šŸ’–šŸ„³

I have read other works of Thomas Hardy and immensely enjoyed them. This doesn't fall short to any. All his books have beautiful descriptions of the greenery and landscapes which take one's breath away. šŸ¤—šŸ¤“

Fate is a ruthless master and every minute we are driven into the hands of destiny through the unseen actions of divine.šŸ¤˜ Clym Yoebright is a young man who has returned to his native village Edgon from Paris. Eustacia is an educated girl who has been brought to live with her old grandfather in the village through unavoidable circumstances. She loathes the monotony of the place where nothing much happens and longs for escape of some sort. She is a loner, a hopeless romantic and  a dreamer prone to self grandeur. She is considered different by the people for her unrestrained wandering of the hearth anytime of the day and her propensity for long spells of mute silence. When she learns of the arrival of Clym, her heart leaps like a fawn and she sees this man as her ticket to freedom and a life of splendor. Little does she realize how peculiar and singular he is in pursuing an opposite direction to where her dreams are headed. Thinking that he will align with her in time, she marries him.  Against everyone's advice, he decides to settle down in Edgon and not return to Paris. He is also much inclined towards charity and social work..which she can't understand. The debacle of their marriage doesn't just effect them but also claims the lives of those who love them - dragging them into the midst of this ongoing drama. A string of mishaps rock the life of Clym and takes it where it should.. šŸ’„šŸ’«

There is an important lesson in this too. One should be weary about marriage. Shouldn't base the reasons for it on imagination and idealism. Eustacia couldn't see the true side of Clym nor he hers. Had they never married, this would have altered many things. But again, it is purely destiny why things happen! šŸ¤—

Book Review : The Perfect Couple by Elin Hilderbrand

The Perfect Couple  By Elin Hildebrand  (Nantucket #3) Published Year : 2018 Page Count: 347 pages  Medium Used: Kindle PW  Genre : Romance, Mystery, Suspense, Psychological Thriller, Drama, Crime, 2024-read.  Rating : 4/5  The ending is such an anticlimax and a let down for me - it almost feels like being cheated. I got so high and invested in the narrative..I lost sleep for most of last night and was reading all day since I got up this morning. The character development is ooof .. the characters are filled with life, credulity and fly off the page into the reader's mind space. I loved the layout of the narrative. I loved the writing.  I would have liked if the mother of the family was a bit on the negative side as well. I mean, really, having Nicole Kidman play the role and making it all cute, nice and kind, compassionate is like wasting enormous talent. I picked this book because I saw an ad that there is a limited series coming up on Netflix ...

Book Review: Gideon The Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

Gideon the Ninth  By Tamsin Muir  Published Year: 2019 Page Count: 448 pages  Medium Used: Kindle PW  Genre : Action, Fantasy, Magic, Necromancers, Adventure, Murder Mystery, Suspense, Lesbian, 2024-read.  Rating : 4.75/5 šŸ™‚šŸ™‚šŸ™‚šŸ™‚šŸŒŸ Wow. The twists!! And wow wow wow .. the lies!! The deceptions ! Its exotic and steamy! Unputdownable. Highly Addictive. Been wanting to read this for a while now! The paperbacks being so expensive, I settled in for a Kindle experience. I am not disappointed. The lack of smut - which I expected/anticipated when I heard its lesbian fantasy - is such a relief. The tone of the narrator is serious throughout. I had some laugh out loud moments once or twice but that's it. One of the best fantasy book series ever!  I think it is the prose and writing style that I had to read this book real slow so as not to miss anything out. There is action in this book , necromancer magic, fantastic games and there are murders to solve and lyc...

Book Review : Tell Me Everything by Elizabeth Strout

Tell Me Everything  (AMGASH #5)  By Elizabeth Strout Published Year: 10 September 2024 Page Count: 300 pages  Medium Used: Kindle PW  Genre : Contemporary Fiction, Drama, Murder Mystery, 2024-read.  Rating : 4/5 The prose is so good and comforting. I couldn't put this book away for long. I picked the book because it is a recent release and the title felt immersive. Few pages into the book, I realized, that most of the characters have long histories and this is a book (5th!!) in a series. But I read it anyway and it could be read as a standalone as well.. only we will not have a complete picture of all the people and their interrelationships.  The three main characters are Olive Kittredge, Lucy Barton and Bob Burgess. There are multiple books each with these as the main characters, drawing up to this one. (I should check them out. I love the author already!) So, in this book, Bob Burgess and Lucy Barton are close friends and Bob nurses a secret crush o...
