Its a beautiful movie. Its a beautifully made movie. Bradley Cooper seems to have really altered himself and put himself in the shoes of Leonard Bernstein, the highly successful and world famous music composer. His hardwork and devotion to the role shows. It just shines through and lights every frame he is on. His make up is also really good  - reflecting his different ages when young vs old. 

I also like Carey Mulligan's acting. Her role shows that deep and enduring love will last no matter how many temptations come in the way. I thought her performance was better as an older woman. This is their story  - Leonard Bernstein and his wife - and it shows the value of endurance, kindness and hanging in there for time to heal all wounds! 

Leonard Bernstein gets his break as a music composer and conductor when his colleague checks out from a performance. He meets his wife Felicia at a party and they marry. She is a successful Broadway actress. Over the years they have three girls and make a happy family. He also associates himself in homosexual relationships  - this is only indicated but not shown. However, the strain in his marriage is real. Above everything, Bernstein loves music and that keeps him afloat and alive when everything else fails. The direction is flawless and effortlessly done!

The paperbacks being so expensive, I settled in for a Kindle experience. I am not disappointed. The lack of smut - which I expected/anticipated when I heard its lesbian fantasy - is such a relief. The tone of the narrator is serious throughout. I had some laugh out loud moments once or twice but that's it. One of the best fantasy book series ever!  I think it is the prose and writing style that I had to read this book real slow so as not to miss anything out. These have a devastating impact on the relationships and expectations of the person who suffered. The writing is simple and flowing. The pace of the novel is medium and hooks the reader right from the start. I have come to care for each of the characters in the story and not just the protagonist, Tsukuru Tazaki. He also shows what can happen once the person confronts his trauma, talks it out with the perpetrators and realizes that he is better off because of this. Loved the book.
