It's been years since I read the first and the most popular book in this series, Immortals of Meluha. I thought I will have trouble catching up on the references to the events from that book but this one can be read standalone as well. Phew!
When I picked this book, I wanted to learn something about the mythological Naga tribe or the fabled divine snake people. To get an understanding of their behaviors, attitudes and what makes them divine and special over the other snakes. But what I ended up reading about is a completely fictionalized narrative of these people.. some Mythological characters like lord Ganesh are picked off and portrayed as Nagas with deformities because of which they live in seclusion and away from a regular way of life. I couldn't have been more disappointed. Yet. The story and narrative are intriguing. Kept me on my toes all the while. Shiva with his followers and disciples seeks out evil so that he can do something with it. Either destroy it or use it for a greater good. He learns that the Nagas have cast a curse on the clan of Brangas and are controlling them with a medicine only the Nagas can produce. He goes into their heartland to learn their secret .. I am thinking of the secret ingredient in that medicine .. because it is not very clear what might be the much sought after secret other than this. Along the way, they face many trials and small skirmishes..that are easily pummeled down.
I liked the book despite not getting what I went looking for. I will check out the next book in the series. The writing is good and easy to follow through. I usually don't read a lot of war related books and this is good on that account as well.
