Verdict : Its an ok read. I felt this to be more a historical fiction and biographical novel than a mystery thriller. Do check this out for an idea of the kingdom of Tutankhamun and his guardians.
The boy-king,Tutankhamun, has been ruling Egypt with his sister-wife, Ankhesenamun for over ten years in name only. The decision making and actual control lies in the hands of their guardian and protector Ay. Every one is weary and dissatisfied with the iron fisted rule of Ay. While Ay controls and pulls the strings of treasury, bureaucracy and temples, Horemheb controls the army and fights the international wars for Egypt. They are both eyeing the power and pose a serious threat to the young couple who decide to take over the rule into their hands. They employ a Medjay officer, Rahotep, to be their guard and detective investigating a series of ominous and eerie happenings in the royal palace. There is a maniac psychopath on the loose who threatens not only the peace and sanity of the king but also is killing innocent young people for some hidden agenda. Whats happening in the kingdom and the palace is connected. How does Rahotep go about solving the mystery? Why does the mystery man do what he is doing? Can Rahotep save and help Tutankhamun and his wife from the perils and dangers that are awaiting them on their path to establishing their rule?
I felt that the reason for the mystery person's actions to be lame. Although tied with an mythical story from Ancient Egypt of Sun-Ra and Osiris merging into one at the time of death .. it failed to make a mark on me. But I learned a lot into the history of Egypt and what happened or must have happened after the rule of Akhenaten and Nefertiti ended in a disaster.
